Passport services were officially launched in G.Dh. Gadhdhoo today.
The service was introduced as part of the government’s efforts to expand passport services across the country.
Maldives Immigration said the opening of the service in Gadhdhoo means passport services are now available in two islands in the atoll. Applicants can now select Thinadhoo City and Gadhdhoo as collection points when submitting passport applications.
People in the atolls have long spent significant amounts of money to obtain or renew passports and ID cards, often requiring several days of travel and stay in Male’. With the expansion of services to the atolls, this financial burden is expected to come to an end.

The government aims to strengthen the decentralization system and ensure essential services that were previously centralized are made available in the atolls. Under this initiative, at least one island in each atoll will be provided with passport services.
Those who wish to obtain passports from the atoll can now apply online through the Imuga portal.
The change is expected to further enhance efforts to provide immigration services closer to the people and deliver them faster.
The service was most recently launched in B. Dharavandhoo before being introduced in Gadhdhoo. The Dharavandhoo service was launched on June 21.
