Trio charged for stripping and robbing man at knifepoint

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has filed criminal charges against three people for stripping a man naked at knifepoint and then beating and robbing him.

The incident took place at Masfan, a house located in the Machangolhi district of Male’ City, on July 24.

Three people were arrested in the case. They are:

• Shafeeq Ibrahim, 35, Soma, S. Hithadhoo
• Mohamed Rehan, 27, Ma. Masfan, K. Male’
• Aishath, 43, Ma. Masfan, K. Male’

The trio are accused of luring the victim into the house, after which they snatched his mobile phone, forced him to transfer the money in his bank account, and using his bank card to withdraw money from an ATM.

The police finished the investigation into the case and transferred it to the PGO for charges on September 9.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the PGO said it filed formal charges against the three suspects with the Criminal Court on September 23.

Shafeeq, Rehan and Aishath were pressed with three charges each; assault, unlawful acquisition of information, and theft by extortion.

All three are jailed pending the outcome of their trial.
