Maldives Immigration showcases 76-year evolution with ‘Immigration Walk of Legacy’

Maldives Immigration has unveiled the Immigration Walk of Legacy, a permanent exhibition showcasing the rich history and evolution of the agency over the past 76 years.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated on Thursday night by Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusan in a ceremony held at the Immigration head office at the Velana Building.

The ceremony was also attended by business magnate Mohamed Moosa (Uchu).

According to Immigration, the Immigration Walk of Legacy was established to preserve and showcase the rich history, milestones, and transformation of the institution over the past seven decades.

Designed as a permanent exhibition within the head office, the walkway takes visitors on a journey through the institution’s evolution, highlighting the people, achievements, and innovations that have shaped the organization since its establishment in 1950.

The exhibition features a chronological timeline covering the history of Maldives Immigration from the 1950s to the 2020s, documenting key milestones that have defined the institution over the years.

A dedicated ‘From the Archive’ gallery displays historical photographs, offering a glimpse into the organization’s past and the officers who contributed to its development. Another section showcases a map of the Maldives, illustrating the nationwide expansion of Immigration services and the locations where Maldivian passport services are currently available.

The walkway also includes dedicated exhibits highlighting the institution’s core functions, including passport services, safeguarding the nation’s borders at airports and seaports, intelligence operations, enforcement activities, and smart visa services.

These displays combine historical information with significant events and developments that have shaped each area of service throughout the years.

The Achievement Gallery celebrates the organization’s key accomplishments and milestones, while the final section highlights the digital innovations and modern technologies currently used by Maldives Immigration in delivering efficient, secure, and citizen-focused services.

The inauguration ceremony brought together many retired officers who dedicated years of service to the organization, providing them with an opportunity to revisit the history they helped build and share memories from their time in service.

The event was also attended by serving officers with more than 28 years of continuous service, recognizing their longstanding contribution to the institution.

Speaking at the ceremony, Controller General of Immigration, Ahmed Faseeh, expressed his appreciation to the teams whose dedication made the project possible.

He noted that collecting and verifying historical records and archival materials required significant effort and emphasized that the purpose of the Immigration Walk of Legacy is to preserve the institution’s rich history and ensure that it remains accessible for future generations.

The Immigration Walk of Legacy stands as a tribute to the generations of officers and staff whose commitment and service have shaped Maldives Immigration into the modern institution it is today.
