Maldivian first couple receive ceremonial welcome in India

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed were accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, as they embark on their first state visit to India.

The ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace in New Delhi, took place on Monday morning.

The Maldivian first couple were welcomed upon arrival at the palace by Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. President Muizzu received a 21-gun salute as he inspected a guard of honor.

President Muizzu is in India with a delegation of 50 state officials, including cabinet ministers. He is scheduled to return to Male’ on Thursday.

After the welcoming ceremony, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha visited Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
