Customs have seized nine kilos of drugs smuggled into the Maldives via air transport.

As per the authority, items suspected to be drugs were seized from an air cargo shipment and post packages that arrived in the Maldives on September 18th and from a 65-year-old Maldivian man who arrived in the Maldives from Sri Lanka on September 16th.

Customs said the items tested positive for four types of drugs during the first phase of testing.

They detailed that 349 grams of heroin were seized from the Maldivian passenger on September 16th while 582 kilograms of synthetic cathinone, 5,210 grams of cannabis and 2,870 grams of ecstasy were seized from the air cargo shipment and post packages on September 18th.

Customs said that their total weight reached 9.01 kilograms.

Notably, Maldives Police Service has recently arrested two Malaysian nationals who the authorities believe to be part of an international drug syndicate.
