Two people were jailed pending the outcome of their trial on Thursday over a violent assault at a guesthouse in Male’ City that left the victim with critical injuries.
The victim, identified only as a “Maldivian male”, was found wounded in a room at a guesthouse in the Henveiru district of Male’ City by the police on Monday morning. He was taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and has been admitted to the hospital’s ICU ever since.
In a statement on Thursday, the police said they arrested two suspects in connection to the case the previous day. They were identified as:
They were presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Thursday. The court ordered them to be detained pending the outcome of their trial.
A spokesperson from IGMH told Sun on Thursday that the victim remains under treatment at the ICU. He declined to make any further comment.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
