Civil Court has dismissed a case involving the recovery of MVR 100,000 owed to the state after failure from the Attorney General’s Office (AG Office) to attend a hearing.

The case was filed by AG Office against Mahmood Abdulla, Hirundhugasdhoshuge, Lh. Naifaru, seeking to recover MVR 100,000 over the non-payment of a fine imposed on him alongside a life sentence after he was found guilty of diamorphine trafficking in 2019.

As per the ruling, Mahmood had to settle the fine within one month from the date of the ruling.

AG Office filed the civil suit to recover the money after he failed to pay the fine on August 17, 2022.

The judgment by the Civil Court in the case read that AG Office was served summons on Thursday to appear for a hearing scheduled for Sunday, despite which no representative from the office attended the hearing.

The court stressed that the AG Office failed to appear for the hearing without informing an acceptable reason.

Henceforth, the court had dismissed the case.
