Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed said on Thursday that the planned new parking buildings will provide a minimum of 4,000 plots.

At a press conference on Thursday, Fazul revealed HDC will be introducing paid parking areas from designated locations. He added that the parking infrastructure will include both paid and free-of-charge models.

“We are announcing about 15 parking structures under the Hulhumale' Development Plan, which we estimate will provide approximately 4,000 parking slots in the future,” Fazul commented.

The buildings will solve parking constraints of Male' area permanently, Fazul said, adding that the project, expected to commence in the next three months, is commercialized.

Fazul added that the initiative will bring a permanent fix to the infrastructure constraints in Greater Male’ area for parking vehicles, with the buildings expected to be completed in two to three years.

HDC, along with Male’ City Council, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, and Maldives Police Service have launched joint efforts to solve parking and congestion issues in Greater Male’ area.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu promised a permanent solution on the long-prevalent issue during his campaign.
