Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem states MVR 50 million has been raised for the Zakat Fund so far this year.

He made the remark while speaking at PSM’s Raajje Miadhu program on Wednesday night.

Speaking at the program, Minister Shaheem said work has commenced on all religion-related matters included in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto and in this trajectory, provided details of the work underway.

He noted that the operations of Maldives Zakat House were proceeding in a very orderly manner.

Minister Shaheem said the goal was to raise a sum nearing MVR 100 million for the Zakat Fund by the end of this year, which would mark a historic first.

He expressed confidence that Maldives Zakat House would become an entity that Maldivians are proud of.

As per statistics publicized in the month of July, over MVR 1 million has been issued from Zakat Fund as medical assistance for low-income individuals. The highest sum of funds was provided for medical assistance for cancer.

The current administration established a separate entity under the name of Maldives Zakat House with the objective of increasing public awareness on the importance of paying Zakat, and fostering love among the public towards the Islamic sacred act.
