Suspect arrested in Gadhdhoo sexual assault case gets 15-day remand

The suspect arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in GDh. Gadhdhoo has been remanded in custody for 15 days.

Police, on Monday, said the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman at Gadhdhoo was reported to the authority last night.

A 28-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection to the case last night.

Police said he was remanded in custody for 15 days by Gadhdhoo Magistrate Court.

The case is under investigation by the Police. However, no further details have been disclosed.

A 27-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a teenage girl in May.

Parliament’s Human Rights and Gender Committee has previously said that a total of 2,169 sexual abuse cases were lodged with the police in the last six years.

The committee said a total of 234 sexual abuse cases were reported in 2023 alone as well.
