Man held pending trial’s end in sexual assault of 16-year-old girl

The police have detained a suspect in the sexual assault of a young girl in southern Maldives.

According to the police, the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl from an island covered by the Upper South Police Division was reported to the agency on Friday night.

A 27-year-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection to the case on Sunday.

The court ordered for his to be jailed pending the end of his trial.

The case is under further investigation by the police.

The police do not disclose details, including the island where the crime took place, in order to protect the identity of child victims.
