Local arrested in Fuvahmulah for domestic abuse

A local man has been arrested from Fuvahmulah City for allegations of domestic abuse.

Maldives Police Service confirmed to local media, they received report of a domestic violence case from a Fuvahmulah City residence on Saturday morning.

Police added it was now investigating the case.

Photos of a woman, the apparent victim in the case, have been shared on social media, which showed bruises to her face and near her eye.

Ministry of Social and Family Development receives multiple cases of domestic violence each month, with some arrests made occasionally.

In March this year, the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) enhanced ease for victims to seek protection in cases of domestic violence, which is now available online.
