Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent altercation that broke out after the ruling PNC’s internal elections in Hulhumale'.
Police said two men, aged 23 and 24, were arrested under a court order in connection with the clash that took place during the counting of votes at Kaamil Didi School (KPS) in Phase Two of Hulhumale'. The arrests were made on Sunday evening, July 12.
The incident occurred when a group of people entered the school, damaged property and fought with people inside, police said. Videos circulating on social media showed two groups attacking each other with chairs. Two police officers present at the time attempted to stop the clashes, but the confrontation continued for several hours.
Police said they initially had not arrested anyone in connection with the incident. However, as the investigation progressed, two suspects were taken into custody.
Police are investigating the incident further.
