Maldives Immigration has begun issuing online tokens for work visa applicants to collect their passport.

Previously, tokens for passport collection after work visa issuance were issued physically.

In a statement on Sunday, Immigration announced that applicants can now take tokens online via the Ant Queue application.

According to Immigration, the decision to digitalize the service was made by Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Sham'aan Waheed to improve convenience.

The change is designed to shape the agency’s services in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to improve the convenience of public services as much as possible, added the agency.

According to Immigration, online tokens for collection of up to five passports will be issued between 09:00 am to 10:30 am. The passports will be issued between 10:00 am and 03:00 pm.

Meanwhile, online tokens for collection of more than six passports will be issued between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm. The passports will be issued between 01:15 pm and 03:00 pm.

Immigration has rolled out a number of changes to improve public convenience in recent months.

This includes doubling the speed at which passports are delivered to cities where the agency has regional offices in, namely Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Thinadhoo City.

The agency has also eliminated the need for passport owners to present their ID card when collecting their electronic passport, non-electric passport or emergency passport.

Maldives Immigration said it is committed to listening to the concerns raised by the public and improving the efficiency and convenience of its services.
