Addu City Council has decided to levy an entrance fee to visit the city’s Mathikilhi Eco Garden; MVR 10 for locals and MVR 50 for tourists.

Addu City Council, in an announcement in the gazette on Sunday, said the entrance fee is implemented under the regulation formulated by the council under the powers vested with the authority to protect Eco Garden developed by Meedhoo Community. The announcement also details the eased process of how parts of the Eco Garden will be leased to various parties.

A ticket is required to enter the Eco Garden which will grant the visitor a 45-minute access to the premise. The ticker has been priced at MVR 10 for Maldivians, MVR 15 for work permit holders and MVR 50 for tourists.

The Eco Garden is leased for parties and events – for a maximum of three hours at MVR 800. MVR 100 will be charged for each hour, exceeding three. The late fee will be applicable even if the lessee has not exceeded one hour following the three-hour limit.

As per the city council, the revenue generated from the Eco Garden will be deposited to Addu Conservative Trust Fund.

The jurisdiction and oversight of Addu City’s Mathikilhi area was granted to Addu City Council by the last administration. This is the first such eco garden developed in the Maldives.
