Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has condemned the delays in handover of flats issued under the “Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme by the party’s former administration.
MDP, in a statement on the matter on Thursday, said the current administration was not undertaking any work related to the handover of flats despite the former administration preparing registries and agreements for the recipients of land and flat under the published final list.
The party, in their statement, also noted having received complaints from flat recipients over the lack of response despite submitting their concerns and complaints regarding the flats to the relevant authorities.
The statement also cited President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu making contradictory remarks on different occasions as a concern for the public.
It was stressed that the handover of flats and land under the Gedhoriveriya and Binveriya housing schemes had come to a standstill since the day the current administration assumed office.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has yet to complete the investigation into allegations linked to the award of the first 4,000 flats under the former administration’s ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing scheme. The commission has said they are unable to specify when the investigation will be completed.
