Govt. ministers and SOEs’ chiefs head to the atolls

Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam departs on a tour of the atolls on December 21, 2023.

Government delegates, including ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises, have departed on a tour to check the condition of people living in the atolls, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s promise to work closely with the people.

Heena Waleed, the spokesperson for PPM, which is part of the coalition government, told Sun that the delegates departed on the trip on Thursday.

“Government teams, composed of ministers, top officials from companies, and political appointees, will embark on a tour of all the atolls today,” she said.

During the trip, the delegates will listen to the needs and concerns of the people, and identify ways to address the issues.

President Muizzu previously said that he himself plans to frequently visit islands, to listen to the needs and concerns of citizens.

He said that he believes working closely with the people is crucial to the proper functioning of the state.

He also recently announced plans to launch a dedicated portal on the President's Office's official website to facilitate direct communication with citizens, where all citizens can ask questions and submit their grievances, ideas, and hopes directly to him.
