A migrant has been arrested on suspicion of holding a person captive and assaulting the said person.
Police arrested a 37-year-old Bangladeshi man on suspicions of holding a person captive and assaulting the said person. They have yet to disclose the details of the case.
However, when the man was brought before the Criminal Court on Friday for a remand hearing, he was remanded in police custody for 15 days.
As per the remand order, testimonies submitted, including that of the victim, and photos taken from the area where the incident took place, indicated the man’s participation in holding the victim captive and assaulting the victim.
The order further read that the man was suspected of participating in inhuman acts alongside a group of other people. It was also noted that he was living in the Maldives illegally and, therefore, had a high chance of fleeing.
The case comes after police, earlier this month, reported having launched an investigation after a Bangladeshi man escaped subsequent to being robbed and held captive in a home in Male’ City.
However, it is unclear whether the man remanded in custody on Friday is involved in the aforesaid case.
