A woman has been sentenced to jail for possessing counterfeit dollars.
Shafra Abdulla Adam of Dhilaavaruge, GDh. Gadhdhoo, was sentenced to jail after being found guilty of possessing counterfeit dollars. She was charged with knowingly attempting to misrepresent the truth.
In November 2022, Shafra Abdulla Adam, Hussain Zaydan Ali and others were arrested in an operation conducted on intelligence information that they were trading in counterfeit dollars. Records show that Hussain Zaydan Ali has been accused of dealing in counterfeit dollars on several occasions. He was arrested, according to records.
Counterfeit dollars were found in Shafra’s possession, the case report stated. She pleaded guilty to the charges. She asked the court for the lightest possible punishment.
She was sentenced to three months and 18 days in jail. After deducting the 43 days she spent in custody during the investigation, she will serve a two-month, five-day sentence.
According to records, Shafra had previously been wanted by police in a case involving the assault of a child.
In addition, records show she had also been wanted for running away from her family before turning 18.
