South Machangolhi MP Ahmed Haitham, on Tuesday, has called to enforce a travel ban on Israeli citizens over the ongoing Israeli aggression on Palestine.

Gaza’s ruling Hamas initiated a surprise attack on Israel in the early morning of October 7th – the deadliest attack on Israel in decades – following which Israel declared war against Palestine.

In a letter to Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed over the matter on Tuesday, MP Haitham said it was extremely concerning that tourists holding Israeli passports were permitted entry into the Maldives for vacationing despite Maldivians condemning the human rights abuses of Israel. He also condemned war crimes perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians.

The parliamentarian called for an immediate ban on Israeli citizens from entering the Maldives.

Death toll from relentless strikes on Gaza has surged to at least 2,670. Israel’s response has extended into cutting water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further worsening the living conditions in an area that endured a crippling siege since 2007.

On Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also called comprehensive international inquiry into the human rights abuses perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians.
