The opposition PPM-PNC’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says he will not terminate any agreement that is beneficial to the Maldives.

In a Q&A session titled “Muizzu Rayyithunge Gaathah” on Thursday night, Muizzu said he will publicize the agreements pertaining to development projects that the current administration has kept classified.

Muizzu said he does not believe in withholding any information, except for those critical to national security.

“I do not believe there should be anything hidden by the government,” he said.

“There will always be information critical to national security linked to the MNDF and the Defense Ministry. This is not what I’m talking about,” he said.

Muizzu said the current administration had also classified agreements pertaining to development projects and loans.

“What’s happening now is they refuse to disclose certain clauses of an agreement for a development project. It has to be taken up with the Supreme Court,” he said.

Muizzu said that publicizing such agreements would be his first course of business upon getting elected to office.

He said that the purpose isn’t to stall projects, but to expedite them.

“The purpose is to move forward. We can only move forward once we are aware of the facts,” he said.

Muizzu said he will, however, change provisions of agreements that undermine national security.

The current administration has refused to disclose agreements for some of the projects run under Indian credit line, including the Uthuru Thila Falhu project and the Thilamale’ Bridge project.
