Elections Commission (EC) says it has received 51 complaints related to the presidential election held on Saturday.

EC’s vice chairman Ismail Habeeb said the complaints include 26 submitted to the national complaints bureau and 25 complaints submitted to complaints bureaus in atolls and cities.

He said that two of the complaints involve allegations of bribery.

14 complaints were related to the confidentiality of the vote, 11 were regarding electoral officials, 10 were regarding the right to vote, eight were regarding registration, three were regarding campaigns, one was regarding an election observer, and two more were regarding other issues.

Habeeb said the commission has fixed the issues that it could offer immediate solutions to, and is investigating complaints that require further investigation.

On Saturday, the commission lodged a police complaint after a voter in B. Thulhaadhoo was found to have taken pictures from inside the polling stations using a spy pen.

Minor disturbances took place in a few of the polling stations, but none that halted voting for long.
