Muizzu vows to free security services of political influence

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the opposition PPM-PNC coalition, has vowed to make the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) free of political influence.

He made the vow during a campaign rally in HA. Dhidhdhoo on Monday night.

Addressing the rally, Muizzu said that the police and MNDF were two institutes the Maldivian people take the most pride in.

But these two institutes have come under extensive political influence and attempts to discredit them, he said.

“I assure you; I will restore the prestige of these two institutions. I will do everything necessary to free these two institutions from political influence,” he said.

Speaking further, Muizzu said that all Maldivian citizens have an equal right to development.

“A just ruler will provide services with fairness. It is therefore with this fairness that we will work to fulfill the needs of this island as well,” he said.

“I am fully committed to realizing your aspirations.”

He pledged to reclaim land and develop an airport in the island.

“It is no big task for us to reclaim land and build an airport in this island. In Sha Allah, we will get it done,” he said.

Muizzu said that an airport will create jobs – which will be the second priority of his administration.

He said that his first priority will be to provide housing – which he described as a fundamental right.

“Be assured, I will ascertain the right to housing,” he said.

Muizzu also pledged to upgrade the island’s hospital, develop a modern football stadium that can host international matches, and develop the island’s roads.

He said that everyone, regardless of political affiliation, must put national interest above all.
