The reclamation of Sh. Mathikomandoo, which commenced on July 29th, has been completed.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), undertaking the project, said 45 percent of the coastal protection project of the island and 52 percent of revetment ratification have also been completed. Therefore, as per the company, 50 percent of the whole project has been completed.

Linking Komandoo and Mathikomandoo via a bridge had been one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s electoral pledges in the run-up to the 2018 presidential elections.

MTCC was contracted the MVR 249 million project in January last year, to be completed within two years.

The scope of the project includes reclamation of 16.7 hectares of land in Mathikomandoo, construction of a 1,520-meter rock boulder revetment, a 353-meter groynes, and a 112-meter geobag revetment in the reclaimed area.

The project also involves protecting a 1,690-meter stretch of Komandoo, and construction of a connecting bridge between the two islands, measuring 200 meters.
