President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop an airport in HA. Dhidhdhoo, and conduct resort development projects near the island, if re-elected for a second term.

He made the pledge during a campaign rally on Thursday in Dhidhdhoo – his last stop in a two-day tour of HA. Atoll.

Addressing the rally, President Solih said the land reclamation project in Dhidhdhoo will begin next month.

He said that many of the island’s residents had expressed hopes for an airport in the island, along with a picnic island nearby.

He said that Dhidhdhoo will have both an airport and a picnic island once the land reclamation project is done.

The president also announced plans to develop tourist resorts nearby, so the island’s residents can gain employment closer to home.

“Do not lose hope. I have a plan,” he said.

The president said the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will launch its RTL bus service in Dhidhdhoo soon.

He also announced plans to build a community center for the island’s youth.

The president promised that Dhidhdhoo will not be sidelined in the project to develop the larger Bodu Thiladhunmathi region.

He said the multiple infrastructure projects being run in the island will boost the local ecnomy.
