Seychelles’ president arrives in Maldives on state visit

The president of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by his wife, the First Lady Linda Ramkalawan arrived in the Maldives on a state visit on Sunday afternoon at the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The first couple and their accompanying delegates were received at Velana International Airport (VIA) by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.

Maldivian government, on Monday, will hold an official welcoming ceremony for the first couple.

During this visit, President Ramkalawan will meet with President Solih to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The leaders will also exchange several agreements and issue a joint statement on the outcomes of their discussions.

The President’s Office said Ramkalawan’s visit demonstrates the close relationship between the two countries and is expected to lead to further collaboration between the Maldives and Seychelles.

The two nations established diplomatic relations on July 1st, 1980.
