Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) planted trees in Hulhumale’ on Monday, as part of its ‘Nala Veshi’ campaign to celebrate World Environment Day.
The tree planting program was inaugurated by MWSC’s managing director Hassan Shah and Urbanco’s chief operating officer Shathir Abdul Rahman, and was attended by the senior management team and staff of MWSC.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shah reiterated MWSC’s commitment to protecting the environment.
“We try to be as environment-friendly as possible in our pump stations and buildings in both Male’ and Hulhumale’,” he said.
Shah said the MWSC has begun using a software to minimize the use of paper.
MWSC is conducting programs in Male’, Hulhumale’ and Kulhudhuffushi City under its ‘Nala Veshi’ campaign, which aims to promote safe and sustainable waste management.
From Thursday to Saturday, MWSC conducted various programs under the banner ‘Nala Kulhudhuffushi’ to raise environmental awareness.
The programs included a cleanup of the beaches and other waste prone areas of the city in collaboration with the city council.
MWSC said the cleanup program attracted the involvement of over 20 institutions and organizations in Kulhudhuffushi, and garnered huge public support.
The company also conducted sessions for the city’s school students to promote preservation of water, and conducted a children’s evening under the banner ‘Fen Fiesta’.
