Mohamed Ameen has been appointed the campaign manager of opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s presidential candidate and former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom in the presidential elections slated for September.
Ameen, who previously served as Maldivian’s Flight Operations Director, was presented his letter of appointment by PNC’s leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who is the acting leader of the opposition coalition.
Meanwhile, former Health Minister Abdulla Nazim was appointed Yameen’s deputy campaign manager.
Opposition coalition’s joint senate named PPM’s leader, Yameen, as their candidate for 2023’s presidential election on July 31, 2022. He was presented the presidential ticket in a grand ceremony on August 19, 2022.
However, is presently serving an 11-year prison sentence after being found guilty of money laundering and bribery in connection not the sale of V. Aarah for tourist development.
The conviction has now been appealed to High Court by Yameen.
