Yameen alleges secret parliamentary revolt, says political situation will soon change

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said on Thursday evening that several MPs are deeply unhappy with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu over the dollar issue, claiming that a “silent revolution” is underway inside Parliament. He said this internal shift would soon change the political situation.

Speaking at a front-office meeting held by the People’s National Front (PNF), Yameen said Parliament is the only place where a sitting president can be removed from office without court involvement.

He argued that those entrusted with such constitutional powers should not be shown sympathy, adding that it is “kindness” to say they have limited influence.

Yameen said not all MPs support the current administration. He alleged that some MPs are frustrated with the ongoing dollar-converting difficulties, including those who buy dollars from the black market and those who earn dollars by operating safaris.

“Everyone is not strong behind President Muizzu as Maleeh said. There are very angry people there. There is a very silent revolution going on now. Allah willing, Allah willing, the situation will change soon,” he said.

Yameen also criticised the government for dismissing youth employed in state-owned enterprises (SOEs), describing it as deliberate injustice. He assured that all youth laid off by the government would be reinstated under his leadership.
