Additional arrest over gang attack on police officer; CP praise for fighting in defense

An additional arrest has been made in connection to the attack on a police officer in suburban Hulhumale’ on Saturday night.

The new arrest pushes up the total number of arrests in the case to four.

Sun was informed the attack was carried out by a criminal gang. The officer did not sustain serious injuries in the attack, however, did receive medical treatment for minor injuries.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, in a tweet on the matter on Sunday night, said he watched video footage of the attack. He praised the officer for fighting back bravely against the assailants.

He also commended High Visibility and Hulhumale’ police teams for swift action in arresting the assailants.

With gang crimes increasing in the Maldives day-by-day, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has incepted a special task force to crimes in this trajectory.
