VP: Govt. running multiple training programs for youth

Vice President Faisal Naseem states there are over 160 resorts in Maldives in need of the talent and skills of the youth, and that the government in running multiple initiatives aimed at training youth for the jobs.

He made the remark while speaking at the function held at Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa to inaugurate the Marriot International Maldives Apprenticeship Program – a program carried out in partnership with the National Apprenticeship Program (NAP).

Speaking at the function, Faisal said the youth enrolled in the apprenticeship program are the leaders of tomorrow. He advised them to prepare for the role.

Faisal said the progress of every country depends on its people, youth, and talents. He said that developed countries like Singapore had invested heavily in human resource development.

He said that the current Maldivian administration, too, is investing heavily in higher education and training to build a competent workforce.

Faisal said the NAP launched Monday is crucial to equipping youth with the skills and knowledge required to fulfil national requirements.

Following the launch of the program, Faisal and Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof presented admission certificates to 100 participants of the program.

The NAP was launched to deliver President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge of creating 3,000 job opportunities for the youth.

Marriott International is the first international hospitality brand to partner with the NAP. It is also the largest hotel chain in the world and features seven properties across the Maldives.

Participants will be trained in maintenance, front office, housekeeping, laundry service, commercial cookery, pastry and bakery, food and beverage service, barista, and life guardening.
