Police have denied rumors the service provided personal security to social media influencer and model Fathimath Zayan Ibrahim (Kaizeen) during her birthday celebrations last week.

A fireworks show was put up at the Usfasgandu area at the stroke of midnight on March 30 to celebrate Kaizeen’s birthday, as she stood on a makeshift stage next to a huge cake.

Scores of people gathered to watch the celebration.

Kaizeen arrived at the Usfasgandu area in a private car.

She was escorted by security guards in black.

The scene was met with instant criticism. Many assumed the security was provided by the police, and demanded the police clarify why such tight security was provided to a private citizen.

In a statement Sunday, police said that officers had operated in the area when the fireworks were put up, but did not provide personal security to her.

“Police operated in the area as part of standard protocol to ascertain safety and security due to the huge crowd of people gathered in the area,” said the police.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) puts up fireworks at the request of private citizens for a fee.
