Five arrested for allegedly hiding gang violence suspect wanted by police

Maldives Police Service, on Sunday night, arrested five individuals on suspicions of hiding a youth sought by the authority over involvement in a case pertaining to gang violence using sharp-edged weapons.  

The gang violence suspect was identified by the police earlier as Ibrahim Faih Nizam, 25, Rahdhebaige, S. Maradhoo-Feydhoo.

Police said that five people were arrested on suspicions of hiding Faih under a court order on Sunday night from Male’ area. They added that the case was under further investigation.

Police first sought public assistance to locate Faih on February 15th. A second announcement following their failure to locate Faih was made on March 16th. However, Faih has yet to be found to date despite the month-long search.

He is wanted in an investigation by the Serious and Organized Crime Department.

Police have asked anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Serious and Organized Crime Department at 9911099 or call the police hotline 3322111.

While the police did not disclose the specifics of the case Faih is wanted in connection to, Male’ City has been hit with a series of gang-linked attacks in recent weeks. In this regard, a youth was stabbed inside a shop in Male’ City’s Maafannu district on February 24th. He succumbed to his injuries days later.
