Some state-owned companies have decided to award additional money to their staff as a Ramadan gift.

Under the Employment Act, all Muslim staff are entitled to an MVR 3,000 Ramadan allowance that should be issued to them before the holy month begins.

Some government companies and private companies gift their staff with additional money or goods as Ramadan gifts every year.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), in a circular published on Sunday, announced their decision to award staff MVR 2,000 in addition to the Ramadan allowance this year.

Maldives Transport Company Limited (MTCC) said they will be awarding an additional MVR 1,000 staff apart from the Ramadan allowance.

Meanwhile, State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has already deposited MVR 2,500 for its staff in addition to the Ramadan allowance

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) awarded its staff equal amounts to the Ramadan allowance - making it MVR 6,000 in total.

Some companies, apart from money, also gifted their staff necessities for Ramadan such as tuna cans and dates.

As per the calendar, the first of Ramadan this year falls on next Thursday.
