National carrier Maldives revealed the fare to Faresmaathoda as MVR 1620.

According to Maldivian’s website, tickets between Velana International Airport and Faresmaathoda Airport are MVR 1574.

However, Maldivian has stated that this rate was only applicable to the two flights on 16th and 19th of this month. The company further said that although the first two flights are at lower rates, from March 26 onwards, tickets will be for MVR 1620.

The airport is set to officially begin operations on March 15, and flights will be operating twice a week for now.

Maldivian will be in charge of operations, and tickets are now available for the destination via their app and website.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be officially inaugurating the airport officially.

Land reclamation works for the airport commenced during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyom’s administration. The reclamation was first contracted to UAE’s Gulf Colba. Later in 2019, the project was handed over to MTCC from Gulf Colba.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was awarded the project. The company was tasked with building a 1,200-meter runway, a terminal in reclaimed land, and additional facilities under this project which is financed from the state budget at MVR 144 million. The airport was developed to accommodate flights during the night hours as well.
