Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has launched a new digital platform, the "Harbour Portal," to streamline vessel docking and permit applications within the lagoon of Velana International Airport (VIA), which is intended to improve coordination and communication among vessel owners, operators, crew members, and relevant authorities.
According to MACL, the portal's primary objective is to establish a transparent and efficient system for vessel registration and lagoon management. The company added that the platform will also enhance record-keeping capabilities and strengthen the monitoring of operational activities for all vessels operating within the airport's lagoon.
MACL stated that the portal will be introduced in multiple phases to ensure a smooth and effective transition for users.
The initial phase will focus on vessel registration and raising awareness about the portal's features and functionality. As part of this effort, MACL has already conducted information sessions for vessel owners and is actively working with crew members to provide direct assistance throughout the registration process.
To provide adequate time for vessel owners and operators to complete the registration process, the registration period will remain open until the end of next month. MACL emphasized that once the final phase of implementation is completed, all vessels will be required to register and obtain docking permits through the Harbour Portal before accessing any lagoon services.
The introduction of the dedicated platform marks a significant step toward improving the management of maritime operations at VIA, where a large number of vessels operate on a daily basis.
