MACL opens new passenger rest and service area at Terminal 1, VIA

A new space for passengers to rest and receive services has been opened at the new terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA).

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the development is an important step towards improving the quality of services available to passengers and creating a more comfortable and pleasant environment inside the terminal.

With the opening of the new area, around 750 square metres of additional passenger waiting space has been added on the first floor of Terminal One. The space features a variety of seating options arranged to give passengers a more relaxed environment before departure.

In addition, MACL has developed a 136-square-metre children’s play area. The zone includes multi-level play platforms, woven mesh tunnels, rope and ring climbing features, and a ball pit. The company said the facility is designed to provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for families and children travelling through Terminal One.

A dedicated Bank of Maldives (BML) counter has also been established in the area. The counter will provide foreign currency exchange services and USD issuance services for Maldivian citizens, the company said.

MACL stated that the opening of the new space marks a significant step forward in its efforts to enhance services at Terminal One. The company said the development reflects its commitment to making VIA modern, inclusive and focused on the needs of passengers.

The new terminal was officially opened on Independence Day last year. It was developed to handle 7.5 million passengers annually.
