Police: Missing Asir last seen at airport

Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, stated Mohamed Asir Ismail, 31, Gaskara, S. Maradhoo-Feydhoo, who was reported missing from Male’ City last week, was last seen at Velana International Airport’s (VIA) terminal.

Police said that they have been unsuccessful in their efforts to locate Asir so far, despite which search efforts are still ongoing.

In a message to the press on Sunday evening, Police said that many CCTV footage from Male’ City and the airport have been reviewed as part of their search efforts.

They detailed CCTV cameras having caught Asir enter a white taxi near Hulhumale’ Ferry Terminal at approximately 7:20pm on the night of February 4^th.  Further footage as per the police shows the taxi stop at VIA’s terminal, after which Asir is seen exiting the taxi and entering the terminal.

However, the police stressed that their investigations showed Asir had not traveled domestically or outbound from the Maldives through any airlines.

Police said that further efforts were underway to review additional CCTV camera footage from Male’ area. They also noted to be collaborating with police stations in atolls as part of the search efforts.

While it has been eight days since Asir’s disappearance – in an earlier comment to Sun, his father, Ismail Mohamed said he last saw his son on February 4^th.

“Have not heard from him since he left the house that night at seven something. We noticed he was not home the next say,” he said.

Mohamed detailed that Asir did not leave the house angry or unhappy. The family, however, has refused to disclose any further details regarding Asir.

Police made an announcement seeking public help to locate Asir on Tuesday, February 7^th, citing his family last heard from him on Sunday, February 5.

They have asked anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to call the police hotline at 3322111 or the Galolhu Police Station at 9631696.
