People issued housing under the ‘Gedhoruveri Kurun’ social housing scheme with outstanding rent payments have been given the chance to reschedule their rent payment.

Housing Ministry announced the decision in a statement Tuesday.

Total 704 housing units were built under the ‘Gedhoruveri Kurun’ scheme.

Housing Ministry said that tenants behind on their rent will receive until the end of February to request to reschedule rent payments.

Interested tenants have been instructed to submit a letter to the Housing Ministry by 02:00 pm February 28.

The 'Gedhoruveri Kurun’ scheme was financed with a loan from China’s Exim Bank. The housing units were built by the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). People began living in the units in 2018, during former president Abdulla Yameen’s administration.
