Nazim: MNP will face the election by itself and win

Maldives National Party’s (MNP) presidential candidate and leader, Dhangethi MP Mohamed Nazim.

Maldives National Party’s (MNP) presidential candidate and leader, Dhangethi MP Mohamed Nazim states that his party will face the election by itself and win.

Speaking at a gathering held at MNP’s campaign house on Thursday night, Nazim said that his party has no intention to form a coalition with any other political party, adding that the party will face the election by itself and win.

He added that the party is contesting in the election with the sole purpose of fulfilling the needs of the people.

“The only choice people have is me. Hopefully, this party will face the election by itself and win. To our competitors, MNP has no intention of forming a coalition,” he said.

Speaking further, Nazim said that MNP does not plan to be lenient on the government and will make the government accountable. He added that MNP will ensure a fair and independent election, as desired by the people, is held.

On this note, he called on all authorities including the government, Elections Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to facilitate a fair election where voters can cast their vote independently.

Nazim also alleged that the Sh. Komandoo parliamentary by-election held last year lacked fairness citing the pledges made by the government during the campaign including linking Komandoo and Mathikomandoo and the development of an ice plant in the constituency which has not been fulfilled to date.

“Ways the government influences such elections include no limit in threatening job security and creating new jobs. There are 50 people who have not reported to work that have been given jobs from the Komandoo constituency coinciding with the by-election,” he said.

Underscoring threats to job security and the creation of new jobs to win the election as extremely concerning conduct – Nazim said that the independence of an election cannot be guaranteed without stopping such acts.
