Maldives Police Service has taken action against an individual who caused a disturbance during the opposition PPM-PNC coalition’s ‘Bunvaru’ rally held on Friday evening calling to free the imprisoned opposition leader, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

An individual wearing a yellow shirt drove a motorbike at high speed toward the participants of the rally.

The motorist had acted in the manner after police officers who were at the scene at that time had instructed to slow down the motorbike.

The motorbike hit some of the participants of the rally. However, witnesses report none of them sustained serious injuries. However, this led to a confrontation between the motorist and the participants of the rally.

Police stopped the confrontation, and arrested the motorist.

In a statement on Friday night, Police said that an individual who drove into a rally held by political party earlier in the day had been arrested. They also added that the motorist’s motorbike had been towed for a period of 15 days under traffic laws.
