MTCC stopped from setting up electric panels at Vilimale’ for bus charging

MTCC stopped from setting up electricity panels for bus charging at Vilimale' as the company prepares to commence electric bus service in the district.

Male’ City Council, through Maldives Police Service, has stopped Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) from setting up electricity panels for bus charging at Vilimale’ via State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) as the company prepares to commence electric bus service at the district.

Physical works to set up the electricity panel boards proceeded on Thursday morning.

City Council stopped the work, citing MTCC’s failure to acquire the permit to carry out the work.

Speaking to Sun, Central Henveiru councilor of Male’ City Council Adam Rameez said that the buses were brought to Vilimale’ without the Council’s approval in the first place.

“Secondly, buses cannot be driven in Vilimale’ without getting the approval of district residents. Thirdly, electricity at the district cannot be used without our approval,” he added.

He said MTCC has been informed of the same yesterday.

Rameez described MTCC’s undertakings in launching the bus service as extremely irresponsible. He stressed that the Council would not tolerate such violations.
