The northern island of Ihavandhoo currently has a health center with limited facilities.

Ihavandhoo Council’s president Ahmed Sabah told Sun that while the health center has the equipment to provide scanning services, it is unable to provide the service due to lack of a specialist doctor.

“Doctors from Hoarafushi visit each month. And then we get this service. This island has a lot of patients and a lot of expectant mothers. But we are unable to provide this service to them,” he said.

Sabah said that the opening of a hospital in Ihavandhoo is a long-held dream of the island’s residents.
