MP Yasir withdraws support to President Solih, endorsing Nasheed

North Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Abdul Latheef, on Friday, remarked that only loose policies to his constituency were witnessed from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Yasir wrote on Facebook that he had cooperated with the administration in his capacity as a parliament member during the last four years for the development of people. He emphasized having especially cooperated with the administration in all matters pertaining to the development of Kulhudhuffushi City. Despite this, Yasir said that only loose policies were witnessed from President Solih towards the constituency.

“Have decided to withdraw my support for President Solih in MDP’s 2023 presidential primary, and endorse President Nasheed instead,” he also said.

Yasir said that Nasheed was the strongest political leader in the Maldives at present in consideration of his intelligence, knowledge, patience and strength.

The upcoming primary – scheduled for January 28 - has deepened the divide within MDP comprising of two factions; one which are supporters of Nasheed while the other are supporters of President Solih, who are both contesting in the primary and have kicked off their respective campaigns.
