Parliament Speaker, Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) President Mohamed Nasheed has slammed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for failing to probe and conduct comprehensive investigations in corruption cases.

In a tweet on Friday, Nasheed said that what happened to the money in MMPRC and ventilator corruption cases can only be known once a comprehensive investigation is complete, eventually charges, and finally a judgment.

Nasheed added that President Solih had failed to achieve this.

“What happened to the money in MMPRC case and ventilator case will be uncovered once charges are filed and judgment is reached. President Solih’s term is ending, but, a successful investigation has not been conducted in any of these cases, nor have charges been filed,” his tweet read.

Nasheed’s remarks comes at a party both him, and President Solih have commenced campaign efforts for MDP’s presidential primary, further escalating the internal conflicts of the party.

Multiple charges have been proven against then-Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and then-MMPRC’s Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath in connection to the MMPRC graft scandal. Although they played a significant role in the case – both of them executed plea agreements with the state only to receive minimum sentences.

Additionally, both Adeeb and Ziyath have been transferred to home confinement in 2019.

Charges are yet to be produced in the ventilator corruption case. However, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) overseeing the probe has recently requested Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) to press charges against three individuals.

ACC previously sought charges in the case as well on four previous occasions, only to be denied by PG Office, citing lack of a comprehensive investigation. Subsequently, ACC has filed the cases of eight persons involved in the case including former Health Minister Abdulla Ameen.
