50 judges set to depart to India for a five-day training program

Fifty judges scheduled to depart to India for a five-day training program.

Fifty local judges are prepared to depart to India on Sunday for a five-day training program.

The training program is being carried out under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) executed between Maldives’ Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and India’s National Judicial Academy.

The MoU was executed in 2020. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic – the training program was previously carried out online.

This will mark the first time judges are traveling to India, to undergo the training.

Speaking to Sun regarding the training program, JSC’s Secretary General Izmeera Shiham said that the judges will be being trained on different areas of judicial proceedings.

She added that judges of different levels were partaking in the training program to include magistrates and judges sitting in superior courts.

“What I want to note that this a rare kind of opportunity for us, the judiciary. Especially for magistrates. We highly value this partnership,” she emphasized.

JSC said that all expenses regarding the training program will be borne by India’s National Judicial Academy.

They also revealed that discussions were presently underway on sending a second batch of judges for the training program on February.
