MTCC to build consolidated Male' Court Complex in two years

MTCC has been awarded the contract to construct the Male’ Court Complex, a major project that will consolidate the operations of all courts except the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) and the Supreme Court.

The Ministry of Housing signed the agreement with MTCC for the project to be completed within 720 days, equivalent to two years.

State Minister Yousuf Abdul Ghafoor signed the contract on behalf of the Ministry at a ceremony held on Saturday. MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed on behalf of the company.

The first phase of the complex will be developed on the land adjacent to Central Park.

The 14-storey building will house the High Court, Civil Court, Criminal Court, Family Court, Drug Court, Juvenile Court and the Magistrate-level functions under the DGA. The complex will be equipped with modern facilities designed to improve convenience for both judges and the public.

A large number of cases remain pending in the courts, and prolonged delays have become a major concern among the public.

Speaking earlier on a podcast, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the biggest challenge facing the judiciary in expediting cases is the lack of adequate space. He said the government will take all necessary steps to expand the courts’ capacity and provide the space and resources required to improve judicial services.
