Met Office warns of extreme weather for next 4 days in north, central atolls

The national weather forecasting body of Maldives, Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has warned of extreme weather in northern and central atolls for the upcoming four days.

An official from Met Office told Sun on Wednesday night in light of the strong southwest monsoon over the Maldives area – strong winds, rough seas and heavy rain are expected across northern and central atolls in the next four days.

In the next 24 hours, Met Office forecasts winds blowing from the west/northwest direction at 15 – 25 miles per hour, which may gust to 45 miles per hour during showers, at northern and central atolls. Rough seas in the regions are also anticipated.

Therewith, seafarers have been warned to exercise extreme caution.

Met Office declares the onset of the prevailing year’s southwest monsoon (wet season) in the Maldives on May 8. The Maldives has seen unusually more rain this year in the southwest monsoon, comparatively to recent years.
