Azhan’s body flown to India for postmortem

The body believed to be of Mohamed Azhan, 27 – that was found dead two weeks into being missing, has been flown to India for postmortem.

Media official for Maldives Police Services said that the remains were sent to India on Saturday.

Azhan was reported missing  on September 19.

A search operation commenced subsequently, which ended with locating the body in the thick vegetation in front of the Water Theme Park in Hulhumale’, on October 2, at around 1745.

Police said that they were able to track Azhan’s movements from his guesthouse located near Redbull Park in Hulhumale’ Phase I to H13 in the Hiyaa flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II, and back to the area where the guesthouse is located at approximately 04:53 am September 18, with the aid of CCTV footage.

He traveled to and from H13 in taxis.

According to police, additional CCTV footage they later received showed Azhan walking down to the beach near the Hulhumale’ Skatepark and then walking back inland and out to the Nirolhu Magu through the Skatepark area on the morning of September 18.

While the cause of death remains unclear, police state they have found no evidence of foul play.
