Maldivian Vice President Faisal Naseem on Thursday asked for technical assistance from Singapore to develop Maldives’ education sector.

Faisal, who is currently on an unofficial visit to Singapore, made the request in a meeting with Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, Faisal noted that the two countries have had a number of high-level visits and signed several mutually beneficial Memorandums of Understanding throughout its long partnership.

He said that Singapore continued to play an important role in the development of the Maldives, and that the Maldivian government looked forward to enhancing cooperation in a variety of areas, including defense, social development, economic development, telecommunications, and youth empowerment.

He also spoke about education, the significance of early childhood development and discussed receiving technical assistance on the topics discussed.

Faisal and Zulkifli also discussed mutual interests such as international cooperation and increasing people-to-people contact.

They expressed hope of working together to further strengthen the Maldives-Singapore relations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore were established on February 20, 1975.
